NHL Playoff Picks 2008 (round 3)

Well, I’m happy and sad. Sad that I only picked 3 out of 4 series correctly in round 2. But I’m happy it was the froggy Habs that lost! A trade off I’ll accept. Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!!!! Ole, Ole! That’s the last time I’ll hear U2 songs being played 50 times at a hockey game till next season. Adding in my 5/8 picks in round 1 gives me 8/12. Not bad at all. Even picked Dallas to beat SJ in 6 games. Bingo! I told you bums SJ wouldn’t be able to score enough goals to beat Dallas. Unlike the Calgary series with fluky goals aplenty, didn’t I say Turco won’t let in cheesy flubbers like Kipper? Hell yeah!

I could wait a few days before making my round 3 picks, but that would be wussing out. I’m a man and will make my picks now!…. coupled with fact I wanna hurry up my picks so I can log onto Xbox Live and beat snot nosed 8 year olds at Call of Duty 4! Hehehehehe! Call your bookie now, guaranteed winners here!

Detroit (1) vs. Dallas (5) - If this was one month ago, I would said Detroit in 5. But now with Turco on fire and Morrow a man possessed? Detroit in 6. That’s it. I’ll give the Stars one extra game. The Wings have too much firepower compared to Dallas especially from the blueliners. Lidstrom and Rafalski vs. who? Zubov? Ouch. Dallas played well against a so-so SJ team who barely got past Calgary, but squeaked out a bunch of games. Playing at that level, no way they get past Detroit. I might be generous even giving them 2 games. Look how they plastered the Avs as if they were a Midget C-level team. Turco can only keep Dallas in it for so long. Detroit in 6

Pittsburgh (2) vs. Philadelphia (6) - Get ready for a high scoring affair. Just like I predicted in the Flyers/Habs series - a high scoring seres - this one is due for run and gunning. Biron and Fleury have been excellent, but these two teams don’t care for defence. The walls will fall. I have to give Philly credit. They didn’t choke (unlike Ottawa every year) and their forechecking absolutely squashed those speedy skinny Montreal players. Guys like Hartnell and Carter hit every Hab in site. But this time, they’ll have to contend with more skillful forwards and a 4th line of bruisers (Laraque, Talbot, Roberts) Montreal and Washington never had. I don’t see Philly shutting down the Pens forwards…. at least not all of them. Too many. Crosby, Malkin, Hossa, Sykora and Malone are unstoppable…. until they meet Detroit. Gonchar and Whitney have barely even scored points, but have contributed to the offence as technically 3rd or 4th assists. If I’m a betting man (I know you are!), I’d take Fleury over Biron. Pittsburgh in 5
